Home Health Aide

To be certified as Home Health Aide, students must complete seventy-five (75) hours of classroom and hands-on lab training, with at least sixteen (16) hours devoted to supervise hands-on practical training. At the completion of the training, participants will be eligible to care for a resident in his or her home.

 

Home Health Aide curriculum covers the following areas:

 

1) Basic personal care including bathing, grooming, and assistance with toileting or bedpan use;

 

2) Changing urinary drainage bags; assisting the patient with transfer, ambulation, and exercise as prescribed;

 

4) Assisting the patient with self-administration of medication, Reading and recording temperature, pulse, and respiration;

 

6) Observing, recording, and reporting the patient’s physical condition, behavior, or appearance;

 

7) Meal preparation in accordance with dietary guidelines, and assistance with eating;

 

8) Infection control;

 

9) Tasks related to keeping the patient’s living area in a condition that promotes the patient’s health and comfort;

 

10) Simple dressing changes that do not require the skills of a licensed nurse;

 

11) Assisting the patient with activities that are directly supportive
